Ag Revival at Luther Burbank High

FALL 2014 TOUR REPORT: LUTHER BURBANK HIGH SCHOOL

SACRAMENTO, CA - This high school’s namesake is an American botanist, horticulturist and pioneer in agricultural science who created more than 800 strains and varieties, including many of the ones that we plant such as the world-famous Santa Rosa Plum. Located in South Sacramento, Luther Burbank High School is reviving agricultural education once commonplace around the region. Thanks to deep roots and a high water table, three aging but productive fig, mulberry and Asian pear trees were the last living vestiges of a bygone garden program at Luther Burbank High. We installed a new 28-tree orchard around them!
